Christian Wedding Vows
Introduction
At the center of every Christian wedding stands a promise — a vow spoken before God and the people who love us. These words are more than tradition. They are the beginning of a covenant, echoing Christ’s faithfulness and shaping the life two people will build together.
The following vow options give couples language that is simple, beautiful, and rooted in Scripture. They may be used as written or adapted to reflect the hope, devotion, and grace that mark a Christ-centered marriage.
1. Traditional Christian Wedding Vows
Groom/Bride:
I, [name], take you, [name], to be my husband/wife.
To have and to hold,
from this day forward,
for better, for worse,
for richer, for poorer,
in sickness and in health,
to love and to cherish,
as long as we both shall live.
This is my solemn vow before God.
2. Short and Simple Christian Vows
Groom/Bride:
I take you, [name], to be my husband/wife.
I promise to love you, honor you, and walk with you in faith
through every joy and every trial.
With God’s help, I will be faithful to you always.
3. Vows Rooted in Ephesians 5
Groom/Bride:
[name], I promise to love you as Christ loved the church —
with humility, devotion, and kindness.
I will listen with compassion,
speak with gratitude,
forgive freely,
and serve with joy.
By God’s grace, I will honor you and walk beside you
all the days of my life.
4. Vows Rooted in 1 Corinthians 13
Groom/Bride:
[name], today I choose you in the way love always chooses —
with patience, kindness, and hope.
I promise not to insist on my own way,
but to seek what builds us up in Christ.
Love never ends,
and by God’s strength, neither will my commitment to you.
5. Contemporary Christian Vows
Groom/Bride:
[name], I promise to share my life with you in trust and tenderness.
I will celebrate your joys,
carry your burdens,
and seek God’s wisdom in all things.
Where you go, I will go.
Where you serve, I will serve.
With Christ as our guide, I give you my whole heart.
6. Explicitly Christ-Centered Vows
Groom/Bride:
[name], before God, our families, and our friends,
I pledge my life to you.
Christ has loved me with grace,
and by that grace I will love you.
I will pray with you,
walk in faith with you,
and devote myself to the life God is calling us to build together.
This is my vow in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
7. Mutual Wedding Vows (spoken together)
Both:
I choose you, [name],
to be my partner in life and my companion in faith.
I promise to seek peace,
speak truth,
and show mercy.
In joy and in sorrow,
in strength and in weakness,
I will walk with you in the love of Christ
for all the days we are given.
