Common questions

Are weddings and funerals considered worship?

Yes. In the Reformed tradition, a wedding and a funeral are services of worship. They follow the same basic pattern as the Lord's Day: gathering, hearing the Word, responding in prayer, and being sent out with a blessing. That's why the wedding and funeral collections live alongside the weekly liturgies.

Do the weekly liturgies follow the lectionary?

Yes. Each weekly liturgy is built on the Revised Common Lectionary readings for that Sunday and organized by season of the church year. Start in the liturgy collection and choose a season.

I'm officiating my first wedding. Where should I start?

Begin with the Christian wedding ceremony script, which walks through the full service from start to finish. Then add readings and prayers from the wedding collection.

I'm leading a funeral or memorial service. Where should I start?

Most pastors begin with the opening prayers for memorial services, then build the rest of the service from the funeral collection: a call to worship, Scripture, hymns, a sermon, and a benediction.
