Bedtime Reflections: Moments with God Before Sleep

The quiet of the night is an invitation to reflect. Before sleep, we can pause to look back on the day—not with guilt or worry, but with God. Bedtime reflections help us notice His presence in what has passed and trust Him with what lies ahead. These moments anchor us in gratitude, honesty, and peace.

Reflection is not about perfect memory or polished words. It’s about holding the day before God—its blessings, its failures, its surprises—and letting Him shape our perspective. In prayerful reflection, we find that God was with us all along, and we are reminded He will be with us still.

Scripture for the Evening

“Examine yourselves, to see whether you are living in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not realize that Jesus Christ is in you?” — 2 Corinthians 13:5, NRSV

Reflection

Paul’s encouragement to examine ourselves is not meant to discourage but to awaken us to Christ’s presence. Bedtime reflection is one of the most natural times to do this. At the end of the day, we ask: Where did I notice God’s presence? Where did I miss it? Where do I need His mercy? Where do I see His blessing?

This kind of reflection grounds us in humility and gratitude. It shifts the night from self-criticism to Christ-awareness. Instead of letting regrets or anxieties lead us into sleep, we entrust them to God and rest in His grace.
