Matthew 11 Night Prayer: Come to Me, All Who Are Weary
In Matthew 11, Jesus offers one of the most tender invitations in all of Scripture: “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” At night, when our bodies are tired and our hearts still carry the weight of the day, these words remind us that true rest is found in Christ alone. Night prayer with Matthew 11 is an opportunity to lay down our burdens at the feet of Jesus and receive the rest he promises.
This prayer reminds us that Jesus not only sees our struggles but also welcomes us into his peace. In him, the weary find renewal, and the burdened find relief.
Scripture for the Evening
“Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” — Matthew 11:28–30, NRSV
Reflection
These words from Jesus invite us to exchange our heavy loads for his light and gentle yoke. At night, when exhaustion mixes with worry, we are reminded that we do not need to carry everything ourselves. Jesus is strong enough to hold our burdens, and kind enough to give us peace in return.
When we pray Matthew 11 at night, we allow ourselves to step out of striving and into rest. Christ does not ask us to prove ourselves—he asks us to come to him. That invitation is enough to quiet our souls and bring sleep to our eyes.
