Advent Prayers of Illumination

Short Seasonal Prayers for Worship and Personal Reflection

Advent is a season of waiting, longing, and preparation. Each week carries its own theme—Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love—and points us toward the coming of Christ. As we gather to hear the Word during this holy season, a prayer of illumination helps us pause, open our hearts, and ask God to help us listen well.

Below are short prayers of illumination for each week of Advent—two to three per Sunday—designed to align with both lectionary readings and seasonal themes. Whether you’re planning worship, preaching, or reading Scripture devotionally, may these prayers guide your hearing and draw you into God’s presence.
