Epiphany Prayers of Illumination

Worship Prayers for January 6 and the Season of Light

Epiphany, celebrated on January 6, marks the revealing of Christ to the nations through the visit of the Magi. But Epiphany is more than a single day—it begins a season that proclaims Jesus as light for all people. These short prayers of illumination are written for use during the Feast of Epiphany and throughout the Epiphany season, helping us prepare our hearts to hear the Scriptures and follow the light of Christ.

Use them in worship, family devotions, or personal reflection as you enter this season of discovery, revelation, and mission.

Epiphany Day (January 6)

Lectionary Focus: Isaiah 60:1–6, Psalm 72:1–7,10–14, Ephesians 3:1–12, Matthew 2:1–12

O God who draws the seeking,

As the Magi followed the star, lead us by your Word.

Let your light shine in the reading of Scripture,

And let it guide us to Christ, our joy and our King.

Amen.

Prayer 2

Light of the world, shine on us today.

As your Word is read, illumine what we have not yet seen.

Draw us toward your grace and send us out with your glory.

Amen.

Prayer 3

Gracious God, you reveal yourself to the nations and call all people to your light.

As we listen for your voice in Scripture,

Give us wisdom like the Magi and wonder like the stars.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
