Night Prayer for Epiphany

Epiphany, celebrated on January 6, marks the revelation of Christ to the nations, symbolized by the visit of the Magi. It is a night of light, wonder, and worship, as we remember that the newborn King came not just for Israel but for the whole world. Night prayer for Epiphany helps us rest in the truth that Christ’s light still shines in our darkness and guides us, just as the star once guided the wise men.

This prayer invites us to close the day by honoring Christ as Lord, bringing him our gifts of gratitude, faith, and trust, just as the Magi offered gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Scripture for the Evening

“When they saw that the star had stopped, they were overwhelmed with joy. On entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother; and they knelt down and paid him homage. Then, opening their treasure chests, they offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.” — Matthew 2:10–11, NRSV

Reflection

Epiphany reminds us that Christ’s light is for all people. The Magi came from far away, following a star, and found the Savior who welcomed them. Their journey was one of trust, faith, and worship—and ours can be too.

At night, when the stars shine above us, we can remember that God still guides his people. Epiphany invites us to bring our gifts, however small, and place them before Christ in worship. Night prayer on this day helps us rest in the joy of knowing that God’s light shines over the whole world and over us personally.

Night Prayers for Epiphany

A Prayer of Gratitude for Christ’s Light
Lord Jesus, on this Epiphany night, I give thanks for the light you bring into the world. Just as the star guided the Magi, your presence guides me through life’s journey. Thank you for revealing yourself to me and for shining into the darkest places of my heart. Tonight I rest in the assurance that your light can never be overcome. Let my life reflect your brightness so that others may be drawn to you. {pause}

A Prayer of Offering
God, like the Magi, I bring you the gifts of my life. They may feel small compared to gold, frankincense, and myrrh, but they are all I have—my work, my relationships, my time, and my heart. Receive these gifts, Lord, and use them for your glory. As I close this day, help me surrender what I hold tightly and trust that you can do more with my life than I could ever imagine. {pause}

A Prayer for the Nations
Lord, Epiphany reminds me that your love is for the whole world. Tonight I pray for those near and far who need to see your light—those in war, in poverty, in loneliness, and in doubt. Shine your peace into their lives and let your Spirit guide them. As I sleep, help me remember that your kingdom is bigger than my corner of the world and that your love reaches to the ends of the earth. {pause}
