Night Prayer Using the Lord’s Prayer Line by Line
The Lord’s Prayer is both simple and profound. Taught by Jesus, it holds the heart of Christian prayer in just a few sentences. When used as a guide for night prayer, each line becomes a way to reflect on the day, release our burdens, and rest in God’s care. This prayer is not only for public worship—it can shape our private prayers at bedtime, reminding us of God’s presence as we close the day.
Scripture for the Evening
“Pray then in this way: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not bring us to the time of trial, but rescue us from the evil one.” — Matthew 6:9–13, NRSV
Reflection
Night prayer using the Lord’s Prayer line by line slows us down. Instead of rushing through the words, we linger with each petition, letting it shape how we end the day. Each line becomes a doorway: to praise God, to trust his care, to confess our sins, and to ask for protection. By praying this way, we discover that Jesus’ prayer holds everything we need, even as we lie down to sleep.
