Morning Prayer for Advent – Isaiah 9:2
Introduction
Advent mornings carry a different kind of light. The world feels both quiet and expectant, as if creation itself is holding its breath for what is coming. Isaiah gives words to that longing: “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness—on them light has shined.” Morning prayer during Advent is a moment to wait with hope, to remember that God’s promises always move toward fulfillment.
This prayer is for those longing for renewal, peace, and the light of Christ to shine again in weary places. Before the day begins, pause and make room for wonder. God is near.
Scripture
“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness—on them light has shined.”
— Isaiah 9:2 (NRSV)
Reflection
Advent is a season of waiting, but it’s not an empty wait. It’s a waiting filled with expectation and faith that light will come again. In the stillness of morning, we remember that God’s light often begins small—like a candle in the dark—and yet it grows until it fills every shadow.
Prayer during Advent teaches us to wait differently. We wait not with anxiety but with trust. Each sunrise reminds us that the story of redemption is still unfolding. God’s light keeps breaking into the world through love, through mercy, through ordinary moments that point us toward Christ.
If your heart feels dim this morning, remember that even the smallest light is enough to begin again.
