Morning Prayer for New Year’s Eve and Day – 2 Corinthians 5:17

Introduction

As one year ends and another begins, we find ourselves looking both backward and forward—grateful for what has been, hopeful for what’s to come. Paul writes, “So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!” Morning prayer on New Year’s Eve and Day helps us pause between the years, remembering that every new beginning rests in God’s grace.

This prayer is for those reflecting on the year behind them and stepping with faith into the one ahead. Before you make plans or resolutions, take time to pray. God’s renewal begins in the heart.

Scripture

“So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!”
— 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NRSV)

Reflection

The close of one year invites reflection. We remember moments of joy and loss, success and struggle. And yet through it all, God has remained faithful. His mercy has followed us every step of the way. As we turn the page into a new year, we are reminded that His work in us is ongoing.

Morning prayer at the turning of the year is both thanksgiving and trust. It’s thanking God for the ways He has carried us, and trusting that He will continue to do so. Renewal doesn’t come from trying harder but from resting in the God who makes all things new.

Whatever this new year brings, walk into it with open hands and a hopeful heart. The same God who began a good work in you will see it through.
