Morning Prayer for the Day: Finding Joy in Small Things – Psalm 16:11

Introduction

Some mornings don’t begin with grand plans or deep insight—they begin with quiet gratitude. The psalmist writes, “You show me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy.” Joy doesn’t always arrive in great bursts. More often, it slips in through small things: sunlight on the kitchen table, laughter in passing, a kind word spoken at the right time. Morning prayer is a way of slowing down enough to notice what’s already good.

This prayer is for anyone who wants to find joy right where they are. The world moves fast, but God’s presence still fills the moments we might overlook. Take time this morning to breathe and let joy find you.

Scripture

“You show me the path of life. In your presence there is fullness of joy; in your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”
— Psalm 16:11 (NRSV)

Reflection

Joy and happiness are not the same thing. Happiness depends on what happens; joy depends on who holds us. The psalmist doesn’t say life is easy—he says God shows us the path. That means joy is discovered along the way, not only at the destination.

Morning prayer invites us to start the day aware of God’s presence in ordinary moments. When we practice gratitude, we begin to see that joy isn’t something we chase—it’s something God gives. Each sunrise, each small mercy, each breath is an invitation to notice.

If today feels busy or uncertain, don’t wait for the perfect moment to rejoice. This moment is enough. God is already here.
