Morning Prayer for the Lonely – Psalm 25:16

Introduction

Loneliness can arrive quietly, even in a crowded room. It’s that ache that reminds us we were made for connection—for friendship, belonging, and love. God understands that ache. Scripture reminds us that He is close to the brokenhearted, near to those who feel forgotten. Morning prayer is a chance to bring that quiet pain into the light of His presence.

If you’re starting the day feeling unseen or alone, this prayer is for you. God has not overlooked you. He is nearer than the breath you just took.

Scripture

“Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted.”
— Psalm 25:16 (NRSV)

Reflection

David’s prayer is both raw and real. He doesn’t hide his loneliness—he offers it. That’s the invitation of prayer: to bring the truth of what we feel before a God who listens with compassion. When we pray through loneliness, we begin to see that solitude is not the same as abandonment. God meets us in the quiet and fills what feels empty.

Sometimes His comfort comes through stillness; other times it comes through people He sends our way—a call, a smile, a moment of understanding. As we pray, we open ourselves to that grace and to the reminder that God’s love is steadfast even when our hearts feel fragile.

You may not know what the day will bring, but you can know this: you never face it alone.
