Prayer for the Day: Rest in God’s Righteousness – Psalm 4

Introduction

Some days end with unresolved questions. The workday is over, but the mind keeps running. In Psalm 4, David speaks to that restless space between anxiety and trust: “In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.”

Resting in God’s righteousness means finding peace not because everything is perfect, but because God is present. When we place our worries in God's hands, we find that rest is not something we achieve but something we receive.

This prayer is for those who are weary from striving, burdened by guilt, or stretched thin by responsibility. God invites you to lay it all down, to breathe deeply, and to remember that His righteousness is enough.

Scripture

“In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.”
— Psalm 4:8 (NRSV)

Reflection

Psalm 4 teaches us that peace is not the absence of trouble but the presence of God’s righteousness. David does not deny his distress. He brings it to God, confident that the Lord hears his cry. The psalm ends not with resolution but with rest, showing that true peace begins where trust is placed.

The world often tells us to work harder, achieve more, and solve everything ourselves. But faith whispers another word: rest. It reminds us that God’s righteousness is sufficient and that His love is not earned through effort. When we rest in that truth, our hearts find stillness even in the middle of uncertainty.

If your thoughts are racing today, pause and remember—God’s righteousness covers what your strength cannot. You can rest, because the One who guards you does not sleep.
