Morning Prayer: Answer Me When I Call – Psalm 4:1

Introduction

Some mornings begin with questions that won’t leave us alone. Worries that followed us from the night before, situations unresolved, prayers that seem to hang unanswered in the quiet. Psalm 4 gives voice to that ache: “Answer me when I call, O God of my right.” It’s the cry of someone who believes God hears, even when He feels distant.

This prayer is for anyone who wakes up feeling the weight of uncertainty. Before rushing into the day, pause. God is not annoyed by your questions—He invites them. His silence is not rejection but an invitation to trust.

Scripture

“Answer me when I call, O God of my right! You gave me room when I was in distress. Be gracious to me, and hear my prayer.”
— Psalm 4:1 (NRSV)

Reflection

David’s words are both memory and plea. “You gave me room when I was in distress”—that’s his way of remembering God’s past faithfulness. And from that memory, he prays again. Prayer isn’t pretending we have peace; it’s asking for it, trusting that God will meet us in the space between fear and faith.

Some mornings, we pray like David: honestly, urgently, without tidy words. That’s okay. God isn’t waiting for polished prayers—He’s waiting for us. And sometimes, the answer isn’t an immediate solution but a quiet strength that grows inside us, the steady peace that says, “God is here.”

If you need help believing that this morning, take a deep breath and pray anyway. You are already being heard.
