Morning Prayer for Work and Calling – Colossians 3:23–24

Introduction

Each day we rise to work, to serve, to build, and to care. Sometimes that work feels fulfilling; other times, it feels endless. Morning prayer reminds us that every task—seen or unseen—can become an offering of love when done in the presence of God. Our calling isn’t limited to titles or careers; it’s about faithfulness in the work before us today.

This prayer is for anyone stepping into the day’s responsibilities—at home, in an office, in a classroom, or in a field. When we dedicate our work to God, it becomes more than effort—it becomes worship.

Scripture

“Whatever your task, put yourselves into it, as done for the Lord and not for your masters, since you know that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward; you serve the Lord Christ.”
— Colossians 3:23–24 (NRSV)

Reflection

Work can easily become about deadlines, demands, and expectations. But Paul’s reminder to the Colossians reframes it: our true audience is God. Whether our efforts feel appreciated or overlooked, God sees. Every act of diligence and kindness becomes a testimony of faith.

Prayer before work centers our hearts on purpose rather than pressure. It helps us remember that our worth doesn’t come from productivity but from belonging. When we align our calling with God’s will, even the smallest task carries eternal meaning.

If your work feels heavy today, pause. God’s presence is already in the place you’re heading.
