Prayer for the Day: Work with Purpose – Colossians 3:23–24
Introduction
Work shapes much of our daily lives, yet it can easily lose its meaning when weighed down by pressure or routine. Paul writes, “Whatever your task, put yourselves into it, as done for the Lord and not for your masters, since you know that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward.” When we work with purpose, even ordinary moments become sacred.
This prayer is for those who seek to bring meaning, integrity, and compassion into their work—whatever form it takes. God’s presence fills every place where we labor with love.
Scripture
“Whatever your task, put yourselves into it, as done for the Lord and not for your masters, since you know that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward; you serve the Lord Christ.”
— Colossians 3:23–24 (NRSV)
Reflection
Work can be both a calling and a challenge. There are days when it brings satisfaction and days when it feels heavy. But every moment of honest labor—paid or unpaid—becomes worship when we do it in love. Paul reminds us that God notices our effort, not just our outcomes. The quiet faithfulness of showing up, doing good, and caring for others matters deeply.
Afternoon prayer allows us to reset our intentions. It turns the middle of the day into an altar where we offer our energy back to God. The smallest act, done with humility, can ripple into eternity.
If your work feels unnoticed today, take heart. God sees the heart behind your effort and calls it good.
