Morning Prayer: My Help Comes from the Lord – Psalm 121:1–2

Introduction

Some mornings meet us with the reminder that we can’t do it all on our own. The climb feels steep, the tasks too many, the strength too little. Psalm 121 speaks directly to that feeling: “I lift up my eyes to the hills—from where will my help come?” Morning prayer rooted in this psalm reminds us that our help doesn’t come from the horizon but from the Lord who made it.

This prayer is for those beginning the day with heavy hearts or full schedules, for those needing strength beyond their own. Before the day gets away from you, pause and look up—the same God who shaped the mountains is shaping this day for you.

Scripture

“I lift up my eyes to the hills—from where will my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”
— Psalm 121:1–2 (NRSV)

Reflection

Psalm 121 is both question and confession. It begins with uncertainty but ends with assurance. The psalmist looks up, not in fear, but in faith. The One who created heaven and earth is not far away—He watches, keeps, and sustains us through every moment.

Morning prayer teaches us to lift our eyes when life feels too big to manage. The help we need doesn’t always arrive as instant solutions but as quiet strength, patience, and perspective. God’s help is not just for emergencies; it’s for every ordinary moment where we feel stretched thin.

If today feels like a climb, remember that you’re not walking it alone. God’s help is closer than you think.
