Prayer for the Day: Rest in the Shadow of the Almighty – Psalm 91:1–2
Introduction
When fear or uncertainty fills our thoughts, Psalm 91 reminds us of God’s protection and peace. “You who live in the shelter of the Most High, who abide in the shadow of the Almighty, will say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust.’” Resting in the shadow of the Almighty means trusting that we are safe not because life is easy, but because God is faithful.
This prayer is for those who need assurance today—those who carry worries, face danger, or simply long for calm. The shadow of God is wide enough for all who seek it.
Scripture
“You who live in the shelter of the Most High, who abide in the shadow of the Almighty, will say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust.’”
— Psalm 91:1–2 (NRSV)
Reflection
Psalm 91 does not promise that nothing difficult will happen. Instead, it promises that nothing will happen outside of God’s care. To live in His shadow is to walk in quiet confidence that we are never alone. When we pray these words, we are not trying to control outcomes; we are choosing to rest in the One who already holds them.
Afternoon prayer gives us space to exhale our fears and breathe in God’s peace. As the day unfolds, His shadow stretches over our worries, inviting us to let go and trust.
If your heart is troubled, find your rest here: in the presence of the Almighty, your refuge and strength.
