Prayer for the Day: A Simple Prayer – Psalm 46:10

Introduction

Midday often finds us in motion. We have errands, meetings, and moments of energy and fatigue. A simple prayer in the middle of the day reminds us that peace doesn’t depend on pace. God’s presence is as real at noon as it was in the morning. This prayer invites us to pause, breathe, and realign our hearts with the One who holds the day together.

You don’t need elaborate words or perfect focus. Sometimes the holiest prayer is simply, Be still and know that I am God.That one line can slow our steps and center our souls.

Scripture

“Be still, and know that I am God! I am exalted among the nations, I am exalted in the earth.”
— Psalm 46:10 (NRSV)

Reflection

Stillness is hard to find in the middle of the day. The world runs fast, and our thoughts rarely stop. Yet God’s invitation remains the same: Be still. It’s not a command to stop doing—it’s a call to stop striving. To remember that we are not the ones holding the world together. God is.

When we pause to pray during the day, we make room for renewal. We begin to see the ordinary moments—the walk to the car, the quiet lunch break, the glance out a window—as opportunities for worship. God meets us not in perfection, but in pause.
