Morning Prayer for Ascension Day – Acts 1:9–11
Introduction
Ascension Day marks the moment when Christ, having completed His earthly ministry, is lifted into heaven. The disciples stood watching, filled with wonder and uncertainty. Scripture tells us, “As they were watching, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight.” Morning prayer on Ascension Day invites us to look upward—not in longing, but in hope. The risen Christ who ascended is the same Lord who remains with us, interceding and preparing the way.
This prayer is for those seeking to live with heavenly perspective, to find courage in Christ’s continuing presence, and to trust that His kingdom is already breaking into our world.
Scripture
“When he had said this, as they were watching, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. While he was going and they were gazing up toward heaven, suddenly two men in white robes stood by them. They said, ‘Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up toward heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.’”
— Acts 1:9–11 (NRSV)
Reflection
The Ascension reminds us that Christ’s work did not end with His resurrection—it continues through His people. He did not leave us to carry the mission alone but promised the coming of the Spirit. His lifting up was not an absence, but a new kind of nearness. Heaven and earth met in that moment, and the story of redemption expanded beyond sight.
Morning prayer on this day calls us to lift our eyes from the temporary toward the eternal. We live between promise and fulfillment, but not in uncertainty. Christ reigns, and His presence still fills our hearts through the Spirit.
If you find yourself looking for direction today, remember: the risen and ascended Lord still guides your steps.
